Army National Guard Montana - BILLINGS - Families of soldiers in the 1063rd Company of the Montana National Guard said goodbye to loved ones in Billings on Saturday before a 400-day deployment to Southwest Asia.

Normally, the soldiers started their journey immediately after the graduation ceremony. The extra evening is more time for 1063 to spend with their families.
"I'm looking forward to spending time with family last night and saying goodbye in the morning," said Sgt. Dailyn Finnicum, 27, of Sindey.
Finicum said he is usually based full-time at a field maintenance shop in Culbertson, where he helps repair all military equipment used in the National Guard.

Finicham's grandparents live in Billings, and his mother, father and sister live in Sidney. They all set out on a journey to get Finicum out.
Sunday marks Finicham's 10th year in the military. While she said she was a little nervous about going abroad for the first time, she was excited for the experience.
"Yeah, absolutely. It's just kind of the fear of the unknown, but I think it all comes together in the end and I'm looking forward to it overall," Finicum said.

When Staff Sergeant Matt Cable was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and fast-moving cancer, he was given a 50 percent chance of survival.
